The Style on-the-go: Quick outfit changes for busy lives

Sometimes, the moment we leave home in the morning we already know that we won't be back before late that evening.

We already know our schedule for the day.

Going to work, maybe grab a coffee afterward, run a few errands and going to a movie or restaurant.

But sometimes, when we leave our home we don't know that we will be coming back late.

Because let's be honest life happens, and quick outfit changes happened for a reason.

You got to work or else, and think you will be going straight back home afterwards.

And then, a friend sends a message asking if you are free for dinner, or someone suggests stopping by an exhibition or going to an event.

Plans change, and suddenly your day stretches a little longer than expected.

Because life is full or surprise.

But what about your outfit?

You know, the one you chose this morning simply for work when in fact, it seems it might need to adapt few situations...

A few years ago, I probably would have thought I needed a completely different outfit.

Now, I think differently.

Not because I have more clothes but because I expect my clothes to do more.

Dressing for the entire day

We often build outfits around one occasion.

"What should I wear to work?"

"What should I wear for dinner?"

"What should I wear for this event?"

But real life rarely stays inside one category, and let's be honest here, we don't necessarily have the time or even want to go back home in between everytime the occasions change.

That's why I've slowly stopped dressing for individual moments.

Instead, I try to dress for the entire day.

Not by making every outfit extremely formal or overly versatile.

Simply by choosing pieces that can evolve without asking me to start over.

Small changes, different energy

The funny thing is that most outfit changes aren't really about changing clothes.

They're about changing energy.

Taking offf your blazer, or rolling up your sleeves will give you a more relaxed posture.

If you switch flat for heels or add a bolder lipstick you look a bit more dressed up, or ready for a particular occasion.

And simply changing your earrings can really change the vibe or your outfit.

Nothing dramatic, but juste enough and somehow your outfit feels ready for somewhere else.

I've realized that the best wardrobes aren't built around endless possibilities.

They're built around thoughtful flexibility.

I don't think we need fewer clothes but I definitely think we need clothes that are capable of doing more.

More than practicality

At first glance, this might sound like practicality and of course, part of it is.

Because life is busy, most of us don't have time to go home and change three times a day.

But I think it goes a little deeper than that.

I don't become a different person between my morning coffee and dinner with friends.

I'm still me, but the energy, the context, or the conversation changes.

My clothes don't need to become someone else's.

They simply need to adapt to the different versions of myself through the same day.

In the end

Some of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe aren't the ones that attract the most attention.

They're usually the ones that quietly say "yes" to almost every situation.

I don't need to plan my entire day around them, I take them along with me instead.

Maybe that's what good style looks like in real life.

Not having an outfit for every possible occasion but having a wardrobe that's ready for whatever the day decides to become.
